This is about building encounters for games like Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons. The main focus is on 5e, but the ideas will apply to most games. We an experienced DM's with a good amount of written material under our belt. This is partly because my players are efficient and creative at finding ways to kill me with the same encounters over and over again. So this one goes out to all you DMs out there who want some help from a non-DM on how to build more varied and enjoyable encounters for your players! And this is for all the other novice DMs who are too afraid to even start their first campaigns because they're afraid they'll never have enough combat encounters ready at the drop of a hat. The way I think about it, if I can't start off strong enough that grabbing an old enemy seemingly out of nowhere isn't going to throw me off balance, then either my own abilities or the strength of the encounter pool isn't going to allow me to capably handle things as they come up. My goal was to create an encounter that was interesting, engaging, looked fun in action as well as on paper, rewarded good play yet wasn't so complicated
