Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is a contentious bitcoin hard fork that employs Equihash, a novel proof-of-work (PoW) idea that differs from the original SHA256 algorithm. This PoW algorithm is believed to increase Bitcoin's 'decentralization.' Bitcoin Gold, created by Hang Yin and Martin Kuvandzhiev, is the second-largest hard fork on the Bitcoin network, behind Bitcoin Cash. The founders' intention was to create a PoW coin that did not give major miners an undue advantage. They want to leverage the Bitcoin blockchain's security while improving on two of Bitcoin's shortcomings: accessibility and scalability. Instead than requiring enormous, expensive equipment, individuals with a standard PC can participate in BTG mining.
