How to sacrifice and be happy

Is sacrifice a negative word? Can you ever say that you sacrificed something for someone? The word sacrifice can never be used in first party, it is only in hindsight that we say that our investment did not yield results. Even for our children, sharing a pizza or an Ice cream is not a sacrifice as it is an investment we make. When our investment does not yield results then we say that we sacrificed.
