The Googan Squad Strikes in Boerne Texas

I go fishing in town pretty regularly, but it's usually pretty tough to actually catch anything. People feed the ducks constantly, which feeds the fish... So there are big bass and they're visible, but you can't get them to bite. Today I sweet talked a couple into biting. Sorry, Googan Haters, both fish were on Googan plastics. I tried a huge variety of baits and only talked two into biting and on two different plastics. The first was on a mini trench hog in green pumpkin (or something along those lines), and the second was on an alabama craw bandito. I swear, those fish talk, because after each catch, no fish in the area was remotely interested in the bait that had just worked.

This was actually my first fish on a trench hog of any sort. I bought two packs of the minis a while back and almost never throw them. I've been trying them out more lately but hadn't gotten any bites until this one. I don't blame the plastic for getting trashed on one fish, it had been rigged a couple times, it's really thin, and she really thrashed. I do agree that most of the GS plastics tend to be fragile compared to some other brands, but if you compare them to other super soft and high action baits they're not noticeably different. My view is that if I'm catching fish, a bag of plastics is cheap. If I'm NOT, then even the discount bulk packs are too expensive. My plan is to buy a couple colors of the full size trench hog today. I'm also working on a compact/light 3600 box based setup for along the shore. More on that later.

It was really windy so I was mostly just flipping up close along the shore. Pure sight fishing stuff. Both fish were on my Carbonlite 2.0 Medium/Fast with the Curado K loaded with 12lb Sniper. That combo was as smooth as ever. I also tried wacky and then a chatterbait (Jackhammer) on my spinning combo but didn't get any looks there so I went back to very slow texas rig fishing.
