FISH KEEPERS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS!

Don't say it unless you can prove it. That should be the rule for every recommendation made to a new fish hobbyist. Sadly it is not.
Many ideas are manure spread on weeds. When you offer a suggestion make sure it contains good seed that will yield real benefits.
And if you do not know, admit it. Do not fall into the trap of saying something you heard once just to make yourself look good. Eventually it will make you look bad. IOW, speak what you know to be true.
TBH I do not follow my own advice all the time. When I don't I get caught. Not fun to get caught.
