The Liberal Case for Ending Identity Politics with Mark Lilla

We were joined by Columbia Professor Mark Lilla for a serious discussion on a controversial, but important debate. He will be discussing his new book, "The Once and Future Liberal: After Identity Politics" with Center Co-Director Mike Murphy on Wednesday, January 30 at 5 p.m. at Ground Zero.

Following the 2016 election, Lilla penned what became the most read opinion piece in the New York Times that year, titled “The End of Identity Liberalism.” His essay challenged fellow liberals, arguing that identity politics cost the Democrats the election. Lilla shared his insights on why he thinks identity politics is the problem not solution for Democrats.
