Oda Nobunaga was a daimyo during the war time (Sengoku Judai) that dominated central Japan, including the capital, Kyoto. He rose to the official position of Minister of the Right in the hierarchy of the court, and was sometimes known as a version of that title, but was more commonly called sovereign.
