As the former White House Press Secretary and Communication Director for the Trump Administration, Sean Spicer knows the scrutiny under which the media examines the executive branch.

But their coverage was a step beyond that of their usual rigor and thoroughness. It was “personal and petty,” Spicer says — more personal than he’d ever seen before taking the post — and that took him “off guard.”
