Seasoning Cast Iron on the Gas Grill - will it work?

Got my first vintage piece of cast iron, maybe almost 60 years old, but it had a bad seasoning job on it. So I stripped it bare and started the seasoning process. I didn't want to stink up the house, so I decided to try it on the gas grill outside. But did it work?
