It was winter of the year 1993. The children were off from school for the MLK holiday. Quantez & Quanita were bored & went over by some friends. Omie & Dondra thought about going over by Quantez & Quanita's house.

Omie & Dondra's little brother Morley wanted to play a sack race game. There was some Mardi Gras king cake on the table. Nobody, except for Morley, knew that it was old, stale, moldy & had been sitting out for days. The children wanted that king cake SO BADLY! Morley said, "Let's do a sack race. Whoever wins, gets to eat that WHOLE king cake!"

They took some laundry clothing sacks & started racing outside. It was a pretty warm winter day that day. They felt lucky. Morley won the race at his OWN game! Then, he cried.

Dondra asked him, "Morley. Why are you crying if you won the race?"

He said, "Because. I don't want to eat no moldy, stale, old king cake!"

Quantez said, "Well, why did you try to make us eat it then, if you knew it wasn't any good?"

He said, "Because I wanted some fresh king cake, but my stepmom said we couldn't have any fresh king cake until that was gone."

Omie said, "Why didn't you just let us help you through it away to the dumpster? Nobody would've known."

Morley said, "Oh." & then shrugged his shoulders.

Their stepmom, Zuri, came inside & overheard the chatter. She sat all of the children down & explained to them why king cake is unhealthy, & why Mardi Gras is pagan. She brought everyone into the kitchen & taught them how to make pound cake. It was a healthy, homemade, organic, natural pound cake with guilt-free ingredients. She was surprised that the children LOVED the pound cake that she taught them how to make.

The children frowned, but she brought them into the living room to praise & worship God. She read them Bible passages that taught them to honor their parents & love their neighbors.
