I didnt intend to get this close but the train arrived quickly
This is a DM30 dual mode diesel engine made by General motors EMD electro motive division in the 1990s
These engines are usually coupled with the double level train cars
It is called "Dual mode" because these engines can be run in both diesel mode or electric mode
This particular train was most likely a express train between the Babylon yard in suffolk county long island new york and Jamaica yard in queens new york city because these trains can not make frequent stops efficiently and diesels are not permitted to run underground in the subway tunnels
