Brain Shannon discusses his use of volume-weighted average pricing (VWAP) on multiple timeframes. Why it is important to working analysts that have achieved the Certified Market Technician (CMT) certification. While all technicians do not use all the elements involved in acquiring the CMT, a technician should learn the different processes involved in various methods of technical analysis. Shannon, author of "Technical Analysis Using Multiple Timeframes," explains why it is important for all technicians to look at multiple timeframes regardless of whether they are day traders, swing traders, short-term or long-term traders. He points out that traders should begin looking at a long-term timeframe and work their way down. Shannon's own trades usually last 3 to 8 days but he starts his research looking at a much longer time frame. He shares his near--term outlook on current markets and sectors.
