They were offered $2 million and European passports for themselves and their families in exchange for the hijacking.

To win the Russians’ trust, the Ukrainians shared information that they were not allowed to disclose.

They asked the pilots to make a video in front of specific aircrafts (to make sure that they actually have access to the equipment).

They also promised to pay for this material through girls recruited as couriers.

Later it was revealed that Christo Grozev, one of the key figures of Bellingcat, designated as a foreign agent by RF, had ties to the Ukrainian secret services as well.
