Tire Shredding Chevelle SS Goes Drag Racing

The Chevelle was a mid-sized car produced by Chevrolet from 1963 through 1968. It was developed on the GM A-Body platform that was shared with the Pontiac Lemans & GTO, Buick Skylark, and Oldsmobile Cutlass. When one thinks of the muscle car wars, the GM A-Body was where it got taken up a notch when John Delorean decided to snub his nose at GM and put a big V8 into a medium sized car. The most popular car of the bunch was hands down the Chevelle. It went through three generations and a variety of changes, but they were all distinctly Chevelle. It was offered with a number of engine and transmission configuration. Everything from a tiny 6 cylinder all the way to the big block 454 could be selected. It has a storied racing history on the Drag Strip and in NASCAR. The best years for the Chevelle were in the first two generations spanning to 1972. The final generation still retains some popularity for building drag cars, but it’s mainly because they aren’t expensive and provide a big enough engine bay and good chassis.
National Trail Raceway is an NHRA member track that began life back in 1964. The complex sits on 320 acres, and back when it was built it was the fifth largest track of its kind in the united states. It plays host to a number of very popular events every year, some of them being Night of Thunder, the Mopar Nationals, Import Face-Off, and Jegs ET Series.
Drag Racing is probably one of our favorite events to go record. There is just something about being down on the burnout pad with the drag cars and the different crew members running around while the racers are staging their cars and tearing down the strip. It's the best kind of chaos to be around because it is so coordinated.
