Running the Race

The lesson taught on July 24, 2020 was part 15 of the "Running the Race" study in learning how the race is set before the Hebrews for a better salvation or reward.  In this lesson, Wayne reviews what we had covered before but then gets into chapter 9 of Hebrews where it starts to compare the Old and New Covenant in Heb. 9:1-20 KJV.  It is imperative that we don't apply to us what was intended to the Hebrews! We are so conditioned by modern Christian pastors about Salvation and not about reward. We must separate the scripture meant to explain the life we receive in Christ from the reward He has for us in winning the race set before us.   Also, it is imperative we learn what the Old Covenant meant to Israel and what hope they were promised, especially when comparing to what the New Covenant meant to them.  Further, in order to understand what The Mystery means to us, we must understand the hope and blessings that were meant for Israel so we can truly appreciate what hope and blessing our calling has for us today.  Wayne finished the lesson covering what it meant by "better sacrifices" which comes from the Greek word "heterosis".

The scripture reading was from Hebrews 9:22-28 KJV "22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
