Impeachment Charade Unlikely to Impact 2020 Election Results

Today is the big day when the House Democrats plan to vote on passing two articles of impeachment against President Trump. I think this is a buy-the-rumor, sell-the-fact scenario with respect to the Democrats' political prospects. The big tool the House Democrats had against Trump was always the the threat of impeachment, not impeachment itself. The threat of impeachment allowed the Dems to smear Trump's credibility and raise the idea that he may be an illegitimate President. Now that they're actually passing articles of impeachment, they are throwing away that tool. Impeachment itself is meaningless since Trump will undoubtedly be acquitted in the Senate.
