Is Online Shopping Safe for Privacy?

Now that shopping season is starting, this is a common question I've been asked. Is online shopping safe? Are there any privacy dangers? Are special steps needed to preserve our privacy when doing online shopping? We discuss what each e-Commerce site knows (particularly Amazon.com) and then we discuss ways to mitigate daily collection both from inside the e-commerce site or externally.
