A walk through the Cedar Thicket... aka 'Fangorn Forest!'

Join me for a little fresh air and check out the inside of our Illinois farm Cedar Thicket. Since we virtually never go in here because it is one of our sanctuary areas, I thought some people might want to see the inside of it since we've never shown it before. I was out on another short grid search for the Godzilla buck that I hit a few weeks ago that got away. (Don't know if it survived for sure or not). An interesting note on the Cedar thicket is that the DNR forestry biologists don't like this type of woodlands as the Western Red Cedars are considered 'native non desirables,' and of course the Autumn Olive bushes that often grown in cedar thickets are flat out invasive species. However, this combination makes a superb Cover area for deer and lots of other wildlife and will hold an inordinate amount of deer compared to many other woodlands. This kind of thick and gnarly cover will give CRP cover a run for its money for holding deer. Thanks for joining me, hit the like button if you enjoyed the nature walk! Thanks.
