When I sell real estate, must escrow/title company report the sale to IRS on Form 1099-S?

Whether you sell your home or a commercial real estate, the title company, escrow officer, or the attorney in charge of “closing” the sale will expect you to give them your Slave Surveillance Number (SSN) so they can report the proceeds of the sale to the IRS on a 1099-S form.
