Crowned Heads has announced the return of the Las Calaveras Edición Limitada (EL) 2022, the ninth installment of the annual series that pays homage to the Year of the Dead. For the first time in the series, the Las Calaveras will be a Nicaraguan puro.
Las Calaveras was first launched in 2014 and has been an annual release. Las Calaveras pays homage to those who have passed away over the past year. As opposed to being a mournful symbol, it is intended to be a celebration of those lives and remembrances of those who are no longer with us. As with most of the previous blends, the bands of each release of Las Calaveras have contained the initials of four deceased individuals.
Las Calaveras EL 2022 consists of a Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler – marking the first time Sumatra has been used on a Las Calaveras blend. The cigars will be released in four sizes: LC46 (5 3/4 x 46), LC52 (5 x 52), LC54 (6 1/2 x 54), and Petit Lancero (6 1/2 x 40). The Petit Lancero will be available as a part of a four-count sampler featuring one of each of the Las Calaveras EL 2022 sizes. The LC46, LC52, and LC54 will be available in 24-count boxes. Production is handled by My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua – who has produced every release of Las Calaveras to date. Production has been allocated to 1,500 boxes per size and an additional 2,500 of the sampler boxes. Pricing ranges from $11.95 to $13.95 per cigar.
“This is the second consecutive year that we’ve introduced a new wrapper to the Las Calaveras marca,” commented Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber in a press release. “The corona oscuro wrapper results in a flavor profile that, in my opinion is reminiscent of the signature ‘My Father’ style of delivering classic Nicaraguan structure and intensity, while retaining complexity and balance.”
