Why Do Opossums Do This?? Opossum Spits Out Chewed Food

I keep finding small balls of chewed up food on the feeders and thought maybe it was the raccoons. After watching the nighttime livestream, I discovered it was from the opossum. Does anyone know why they do this? I've googled everywhere, but cannot find an answer. Watch closely as the possum chews waste-free sunflower seeds and peanuts, then abruptly spits it out.
