Mystery #3: True Conservatism is ALWAYS Populist

This is perhaps the most frustrating mystery to explain, but it is rather simple to observe.  A True Conservative is not inately concerned with the Principles of their Institutions.  They are only truly concerned with honoring and surviving the Forces of Family and Food.

Most humans in any society will gravitate to honoring Family and Food, because they are humans who wish to survive in a stable environment.  So when it just so happens that one or more Institutions adopt, alter, redefine or "creatively enforce" Principles they lay claim to in such a way as to endanger or destabilize a populations relationship to the Forces of Family and Food...suffice to say, Principles will not save them nor should they.

It is erroneous to declare anyone to not be a Conservative because Principle declares they must bow to an endangering Institution or to its ideals.  They are still Conservatives and they are True Conservatives. True Conservatives are only bound to honoring the Forces of Family and Food, and because survival is a natural human desire it will always be popular with those who live to see such interesting days.

As such True Conservatism will Always find itself as a feature in Populist platforms.  Because let's face it, when your Institutions become so detached from reality that they need to label an emerging movement moving society back to reality as "Populism" (to imply an inate lack of Principle) you might just need to start from scratch anyway.
