Hamadryas Baboons Families

In this hallowed ground where Mat Pines once explored and lived with the hamadryas baboons for five years (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01l45m4), I was privileged enough to come very close to troops of these baboons every evening for a week. They would sweep through my camp. Their interactions as a family are so interesting. Their behavior is fascinating. The babies interacting with mothers, the alphas doing their work to patrol and manage the troops and females.

You had to be careful where you looked. You might irritate them. A troop this large moving through our camp was more dangerous than a lion pride walking through. Thankfully, they were safe and felt secure and we were safe and felt secure.

It's one of the truly special experiences I've had in Ethiopia.
