Did 100 took some deep breaths did more, took more deep breaths etc.
Heavy breathing type exercises really stimulates the system to grow.
Like in the book "Super Squats"
For me it's for conditioning and it gets the lungs pumping in short times and really hits the lower back and hamstring.
Use what you have to get strong and conditioning.
This type of training is not today's conformity training.
