Garden Update 8 21 2019 Elderberries and Butterflies!

Hi, this is Lori Fiechter with another garden update. I was surprised to find some ripe elderberries hiding in the middle of our elderberry jungle! There are not enough yet to make elderberry syrup (for the upcoming cold and flu season) but I put some, stem and all, in the freezer. Once I have a bagful--or two bags full--I will show you how to take the berries off the stem and make the syrup. It needs a designation other than "syrup." Someone asked me if you put it on pancakes--goodness, no!! Elderberry syrup is not tasty and not meant for taking more than a tablespoon at a time! On pancakes! That would be most unpleasant indeed.

Butterflies have been flitting about my zinnias--and they are not terribly camera shy....neither is our cat, Hedgie!
