1.) We HONOR Mary because Christ honored her as His own mother, keeping in accordance with the very commandment that He gave to us - "Honor thy mother and father". Honor does not mean worship. We don't worship our physical mother; nor do we worship our spiritual mother (Mary). We honor them.

2.) Mary directs us TOWARDS Jesus. That is the role that has been given to her by God... to bring Christ into the world and to bring us to Him.
