Things were not getting better.  By the evening of Thursday, December 23, 2021, our oxygen was in the 80s, and we both were having difficulty breathing.  It was night.  The urgent cares were closed.  We were depending on a friend to drive us (because neither of us felt like driving), so we went to the closest facility, which was Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, CA.  I wished we hadn’t gone there, but at the time, I thought it might be okay.  After all, two close friends were there, one being our pastor.  What could go wrong?
