Among The Unknown | The Abandoned Clarion Fire Brick Company Episode 85

Opened in 1900, the Clarion Fire Brick Company operated for more than 100 years even with suffering from fires, explosions and several changes in ownership.

Hard and soft clay is used in making refractory bricks which are harder than common construction bricks.

It was lowered on tracks down an incline, hauled in wagons, and later by electric motor cars on a tramway, and then over a bridge to the piers of which can still be seen, (as appeared towards the end of this video).

Bricks were then fired in kilns for 5-9 days where temperatures were slowly raised to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Finished bricks were brought up an incline and shipped by rail and truck.
