What are the benefits of meditation to Christians?

Meditation is a very common practice; it's known to calm the soul, improve mental health and relieve stress.

But when the Bible mentions "meditation", is that what it is referring to? If not, what other kind of meditation could there be, and what kinds of benefits will we get if we do it?
