Production of the M4A2 tank began in June 1942 it would have had a welded hull and one piece cast nose, with a 75mm cannon.
And was manufactured by Fisher Tank Arsenal It would have had a GM 6046 twin diesel engine.

This version was produced with all the improvements the other types got, like the large hatch hull.

M4A2 was mostly supplied to other Allied countries under Lend-Lease.

The M4A2 would see limited combat in the US Army
and the French and British, would use them the most
and then the Russians and USMC in the Pacific.

The M4A2 would perform fairly welland would see service
after the war and would see many upgrades
Like the HVSS E8 tracks and, the 76mm M1 gun.

This Sherman tank named Massaouah belonged to the
1st Company of the 501st Combat Tank Regiment (RCC) of the 2nd DB.
It was knocked out in the town of Ecouche on August 15, 1944 .

On August 13, the tank takes position in the west of the city
to intercept retreating German troops.
At one point, the 'Massaouah' comes across a
German Panzer IV from the 116th Pantzer,
which is maneuvering into position to fire on the 'Massaouah'.
But it will never come to a shot, from 800 meters
the 'Massaouah' disables the Panzer.

On August 15, the 'Massaouah' and the M4A2 'Bir Hakeim' are still in the same location togheter with other tanks which are being serviced. Suddenly, hidden on the other side of the Orne in the woods, north-east of Ecouché,
German tanks open fire.
The first shot that comes in misses the tanks, but the second hits the 'Bir Hakeim'.
A third shell penetrates the 'Massaouah' where the ammunition is stored and catches fire.

Sergeant Major Mahaeo is thrown from the turret on impact, but is uninjured.
The gunner is wounded in the chest and the radio operator/gunner, Leonard, breaks his leg. Ancel, the driver is not injured.

Because of the damaged the tank was never recovered and would become a monument after the war.

Today you can still see the battle and fire damaged on the tank.
