Population numbers are interpolated between centuries until year 1700, decades from 1700 to 1940, and 5 year periods from 1940.
Gibraltar are shown from 1950 only.
On Iceland there were traces of christian monks before the viking settlements. The numbers and timeline is unknown/disputed, so only estimated numbers from the time of viking settlements are shown.
All of Russia is shown here, but no other transcontinental countries are shown (Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Cyprus is mostly considered part of Asia). Transcontinental territories are also excluded.
