Driving tour of the Big Horn Mts.

Join us on a high definition journey through the Big Horn Mountains of northern Wyoming. In part 1, we start on the prairie, near the town of Dayton, at the northeastern corner of the mountain range. Starting at 4200ft, we ascend from the foothills into the mid-elevations of the range, where forested canyons and ancient sedimentary rock (such as limestone, shale, and sandstone) are apparent. Forests juniper, ponderosa pine, and mountain mahogany are more extensive on the eastern slopes due to summer rains from Gulf of Mexico moisture.

The video ends at a scenic overlook at 6500ft where the driving route can be seen on the grassland far below; the towns of Dayton and Ranchester are also visible (5:57). Be sure to join us for Part 2 as we pass through the higher elevations of the range!
