The Harp of Alfred by G. K. Chesterton

Malcolm Guite's (@Malcolm Guite ) upload this week was a reading of the introduction to Gilbert Keith Chesterton's book, The Ballad of the White Horse:

Of course I was drawn to Book III, where Alfred sneaks into the camp of the Dane's he is at war with to have a bit of a song-off with his enemy.

The singer is actually called Elf, not 'an' elf, but I liked the idea and the description of the singer in the ballad seems elvish.
