Acarbose is a drug that was approved by the to treat type 2 diabetes. The drug works by slowing down the digestion of carbs in the intestines, which helps control blood sugar levels.

The drug was approved in 1997 and is still used today. It’s a type of alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, which means it slows down the digestion of carbs in the intestines.

Acarbose may also have an effect on aging.

In a study published in Cell Metabolism, researchers found that Acarbose could have the potential to extend the lifespan of mice.

The study showed that the mice given this drugs lived up to 30% longer than the control group of mice.

A 30% increase would be phenomenal if it could be reproduced in humans. Especially if you think that many studies say that even a cure for cancer would only make human lifespan 3% longer.

Another study published in Nature Medicine also found that Acarbose could have also the potential to control weight.

The study was conducted by scientists from Yale University. and it consisted of two phases. In the first phase, researchers fed mice a high-calorie diet and gave them either a placebo or an Acarbose pill every day for six months. The second phase consisted of feeding them a normal diet and giving them either a placebo or an Acarbose pill every day for four months. The findings revealed that the mice who were given the Acarbose pills during both phases were more likely to lose weight and keep it off than those given the placebo pills.

Other research also shows that acarbose increased the lifespan of mice from 10% to 20%. However, this effect is visible mostly in male mice.
