It was announced towards the end of the world championships that ex pokemon cards would be coming back in the standard format based on their original counterparts from 2003-2007. This means basic, stage 1 and stage 2 pokemon can be pokemon ex but obviosuly they're going to be on par and even stronger than the rule box pokemon of our current game as opposed to how they were back in the day.
