Moscow Update - August 28, 2022

There are a couple of guests here who speak English, so I wasn't going to get into it on camera, but this is the only hostel I've ever been in that's giving me housing program flashbacks. I'm actually surprised the lights are on now; but for the most part, people around here want the lights off and the tv on. And the #### they watch... unbelievable. I'm telling you, it's just like being in a housing program back in the States. It's like you're supposed to maintain an ongoing feeling of fear. And since this atmosphere is a constant, even the boldest tend to develop a feeling of unease.

OH... the other thing was the beverage situation. Yeah, beverages around here cost as much as they do back in the States. So, until a stumble across something I'm prepared to pay for, I'm just going to make sure I always have ice-cold water on hand.

Apples cost around 50 cents. So...switching to apples.

Why this episode?

I can't recall if it was a joke or just a general sentiment I stumbled across, but apparently, the Cuban attribute of respecting elders seems to strike other latin groups as absurd or humorous.

Maybe it's just respecting FEMALE elders that strikes them as amusing. - If I recall correctly, I believe they DID specify "Abuelita".

So...if displaying respect for your own society is a particularly Cuban attribute...
