What is better for passive income UK gilts or US bonds?

Good question.

Neither UK gilts or US bonds offer any sort of return that is high enough to make sense. They are not attractive as an investment unless you are a bond trader that is very experienced and good at predicting interest rate movements.

However, US bonds do offer one benefit over UK gilts: they are US dollar denominated. The UK GBP has for decades lost value against the US dollar and it is likely to continue this trend if nothing changes.
