INTRODUCTION STORY - A Christian fisherman and his godless friends

A Christian fisherman went out fishing with his godless friends. A storm caught up quickly such that their boat was about to sink. His godless friends were fearful and urged him, “You believe in God, right? Why don’t uou pray for your God to do something so we will be saved?

The Christian fisherman said, “You know it has been a long time that I have done that. In fact, I haven’t hone yo church for a long time now.”

By the urging of his friends, he stood up and prayed to the Lord. He said, “O Lord, I haven’t asked anything of You for 15 years, and if You will help us now and bring us safely to land, I promise I won’t bother You again for another 15.”

You laughed and I expected that you would laugh. But this points us to something that is true about us. We go to God only when we need Him.

The question is, “Does God still hear those kinds of prayers?” Even when we use Him as a utility for our own good, does He listen to those prayers?

I hear an Amen but some of you have some doubts. But I’m sure the next question that I’ll ask you, you won’t have any doubt. “Does God still love these people?” Why can’t He hear such prayers if He does love them?

Yes, God still loves these people! But the question is, “Why?”
