If you were watching the Today interview knowing nothing about the case, would you come away thinking Amber Heard was the aggressor? No. Most people do not want to take sides in someone else's conflict and will build a case not to, that's what Today gave them. Even a 'Hollywood brats' or 'both sides were bad' conclusion is a win for Amber.
