Republicans' Vicious Feedback Loop Of Extremism Is Killing Their Hopes In The Midterms

The Republican Party's platform is too extremist for the broader American electorate. If it wasn't for gerrymandering and voter suppression they wouldn't have a chance. But even with those advantages, an unpopular President Biden, high inflation, and high energy prices their still losing seats they should probably win.

Republicans like their chances in the midterms starting to kind of reverse a little bit with like the Jan six stuff and the roe v wade decision. I mean like I think especially if democrats can do a decent job of highlighting what they actually believe and like the consequences of it that it's like their platform is obviously extremely unpopular with the broader electorate. and you know as they get more extreme like only become more extreme I think like it's clear that their efforts to submit democracy and like authoritarianism is like kind of their only way out of that. Because the more extreme they become the more toxic they become to the general electorate. And so I guess my kind of question is like assuming that like and I don't think we should assume that they won't succeed. I think there's something I don't know. I'm pretty pessimistic about it. but like if for just for a second like if we suppose that like though their efforts were to not succeed. and they have to actually compete on a long-term basis in like a general electorate and actually like to try to receive something approximating a majority like how would they even begin to like eventually moderate their parts? Because like they're so… there doesn't even seem to be there doesn't seem to be a strategy or frankly, an example of them moderate. I think what it is is that they're going to continue. They are pursuing the strategy that they're pursuing. I don't think it's just that they are, they're too extreme and they're driving people. They simply do not have the numbers. And they know they do not have the numbers. You don't lose two presidential elections over 20 years by at least the popular vote and you get to be president unless like the strategy is they are looking for minoritarian rule. Because that's their only option. So you have the gerrymandering that's going on in the house seats. The Senate doesn't work as well obviously for gerrymandering. It doesn't work you know you don't gerrymander. But there's a structural advantage to these you know to the small states having you know Republicans and the Supreme Court.
