Before he became a Rock and Roll icon, Tom Petty was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. His ties with the University of Florida ran deep and have created a lasting tradition for Gator fans. Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66 on Oct. 2, 2017, but his legacy lives on at Florida games with his song. First celebrated a week after his passing at the 4th quarter, the Gators team and fans have adopted the timeless song as their own.
