Reference: The Nag Hammadi Scriptures by Marvin Meyer and James M. Robinson.
The Nag Hammadi Scriptures are a collection of codices in the form of bound books. They were discovered in a large jar at the base of the Jabal al-Tarif near the city of Nag Hammadi in Egypt around C200 AD. The codices consist of fifty-two written works or tractates. The texts were origin ally written in Greek and translated into Coptic. Coptic was the iliturgical language of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. The tractates are an addition to the early movements of Christianity.
