I’ve lost the ability to think clearly. Nothing else seems to be wrong. People were walking around outside for a while, investigating the sirens that were suddenly blaring. The sirens had been there for as long as anyone in the town could remember. They were just seen as a town quirk, maybe some kind of remnant from the paranoia of the Cold War. Before yesterday, they had never gone off.

I saw people try to take down the sirens, destroy them, anything to make them stop. Eventually and without fail, each person gave up. Not that it would do much good if they were able to take one down. There were so many.

The option to leave the town would be a valid one if the roads weren’t barricaded. No one left in this town knows why or when this happened. Each road out of town was now blocked, military-grade barricades put up to prevent anyone from entering or leaving.

And the sirens continue to blare.

I’m almost worried what will happen when they stop.
