North Toe River Green Mountain NC elevation 2,000 feet. It’s great to see the CSX trains running again after Helene destroyed the tracks one year ago. The finest quartz in the world is mined here in neighboring Spruce Pine and goes into almost every electronic device that you own. This rail line is essential to national security. We live 2.5 miles above here at 3,100 elevation. The home on top of our mountain sits at 4,200 ft. Road and driveway complete. It was previously gravel and post Helene it had deep crevices and large exposed rocks you had to maneuver around. The most important thing is the grading underneath. Small loose rocks and loose dirt allow water to get underneath and cause it to crack. They did a great job grading and compacting it down until it was perfect. Solid and flat. Drains were intact. They came in on time and exactly as quoted $23,050 for 500’ x 10’, all inclusive which was already a great price. We gave them $24k. This and the RV were expenses we planned on when we moved here 40 months ago. Woodby Paving Burnsville NC. Danny and Billy were highly recommended by friends and now also by all the critters at The Treehouse on Ayers Mountain ❤️✝️🇺🇸 The dirt shows, but will wash away. Those are not scratches or grooves. North Carolina 7 county High Country. God’s country. Everywhere you go in the 828 since Helene this is what you’ll find so prepare for delays. My 2 hour trip turned into 4, but the dogs were perfect Angels while I was gone. 15 minutes of idle time with the car off cut out. The roads and bridges are slowly getting there, but there’s still a long way to go. It’s taken an army of tradesmen from all over country moving millions of tons of rock to relay the roadbeds that collapsed before new asphalt can be applied. Most of the rock is coming from the river beds which are full of boulders now. Truly amazing. I can only equate what is happening here to the WWII war efforts I’ve read about. 40 miles up steep winding roads from our house is the Mt Mitchell summit. At 6,684 ft is the tallest peak east of the Mississippi River known as the Apex of Appalachia. The average temperature is 20 degrees cooler than our house. 67 today vs 48 at the summit. The annual average snowfall up here is 91 inches. and at The Treehouse just a short distance away at elevation 3100 ft, our annual average is 14 inches of snow.
