Vince Lanci: Are we watching Powell’s ‘Volcker Moment?’

When Jerome Powell and the Federal Reserve started raising interest rates earlier this year, most market participants assumed it wouldn’t be long until they ‘pivoted’ and reversed course.

Yet as the months have gone on, the rate hikes have been more aggressive than expected, while Powell and the other Fed governors have so far offered little indication that there will be a pivot in the immediate future.

Which has left Vince Lanci of Goldfix Substack wondering if we are witnessing Powell’s ‘Volcker Moment’ right now.

Of course this isn’t the end of the story, as Powell's raising rates into what many already consider to be a recession. And with the government’s inflation numbers still elevated, the number and severity of the additional rate hikes aren’t likely to be without consequences.
