Makita XT268T 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 2-Pc. Combo Kit (5.0Ah)
Makita is the innovation leader in brushless motor technology, and the 18V LXT Brushless 2-Piece Combo Kit (model XT268T) gives you two brushless solutions with more performance features for drilling, driving and fastening. Each tool features an efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor that is electronically controlled for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The combo kit includes a Hammer Driver-Drill with a full 1,090 in.lbs. of Max Torque for the most demanding applications in wood, metal and masonry. The kit also includes an efficient and compact Impact Driver that combines a full 1,550 in.lbs. of fastening torque with category-leading precision features. Quick-Shift Mode is an automatic electronic controller that downshifts and reduces rotation and impact speed prior to driving the screw into place, and is engineered to minimize screw thread stripping, breakage and damage to work. For faster tightening of self-drilling screws, the Tightening Mode (T-mode) is engineered to prevent damage to the screw or work piece. These precision features, combined with 3-speed power settings, give users an impact driver with more control for a wide range of fastening tasks – from cabinet screws and deck screws to lag bolts, and much more. The 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah batteries have the fastest charge times in their category, and for increased convenience they include an on-board L.E.D. charge level indicator.
Hammer Drill
Features variable 2-speed (0-550 & 0-2,100 RPM) with BL Motor delivers 1090 in.lbs. of Max Torque.
Impact Driver
3-speed Impact Driver (0-1,100/0-2,100/0-3,600 RPM & 0-1,100/0-2,600/0-3,800 IPM.
Innovation
18V LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah battery features an integrated L.E.D. battery charge level indicator.
"At first I was worried that these would be heavier than my older Makita 18v. set with the 3 amp hour batteries, but the new 5 amp batteries weigh the same as the 3's and 4's. The impact driver actually weighs 1 1/2 oz less and the drill weighs 3 ounces more than the old set. The case has room for everything in the picture and has slots for 2 extra batteries. I've only been using this set for a week of general construction. Here is my report. I've been experimenting with the 4 "speeds" on the impact and I like them. The speed button does not always work when I have gloves on and may take a determined extra push. The tool is light weight, compact and powerful. The drill has a different feel than the older one. There is no slop in the gears at all, very tight. It has a lot of torque for such a tight package: keep the handle handy when using big bits. Ran Tapcons into solid concrete and some into block- quick and easy. Also used auger bits in SYP 2-bys and 4-bys without binding. It feels balanced in the hand and not too heavy. The rapid charger will charge all the Makita 18v slide on batteries quickly. Any Makita 18v. lithium slide on batteries will work with both these tools even if they don't have the star on them. So far I really like the set and hope it lasts as long as the previous set."
"I started using Makita 1989. I then switched to DeWalt in the 90's when the 18v dewalt was all the rage. I used that for several years till the batteries bide and they were more that the tool was worth! I then went and got a Makita 14V and I was amazed at just how better it was and used that for several years super happy. Changed jobs got married and the tools went by the wayside. I them went to Porter Cable (Just after B&D bought them) and they were killing the brand to make DeWalt look better. The batteries on the porter cable finally died and I bought a Ridgid set. Nice but the over molding and trigger was totally awful. I then switched to Milwaukee Fuel one key. Super powerful but the balance, weight and trigger power delivery was it's downfall. I them went back to Makita! WOW, I mean WOW. The tool is super well balanced the right weight and soooooth baby. The bearings in the Milwaukee when you operate the tool seem gritty like it was thrown in the sandpile before you received it. The linear power from the Makita is light years better than any other tool manufacture. The chuck runout on the Makita is almost nil. The issue with the Milwaukee the runout on the chucks were awful. It charges faster than the other brands and all day it's the tool you just want to pickup and use all day. The ergos are great and the tool has never let me down! It's Makita, need I say more???? Don't hesitate in buying you will not be disappointed!"
