Utah's Economic Success Story

Utah has been ranked the nation’s most economically competitive state for the past 15 years in the ALEC Rich States, Poor States report. Utah State Treasurer Marlo Oaks sat down with ALEC Chief Economist Jonathan Williams at the ALEC 49th Annual Meeting to talk about the Utah success story. “It starts with controlling spending, having the right tax policies, and a diverse economy,” explained Oaks. Oaks warned about what he called the “politicization of capital” with regards to state pension funds. “It is one of the greatest breaks of fiduciary responsibility in the history of our country.”
