The world has changed a lot since 1200. Trends such as increasing political rights, interconnected global economic systems, and new technologies have enabled faster and more sustained communication. But while these revolutions have created vast wealth and opportunity for some, they have produced only limited change for others, and caused great suffering for many. The increased interconnectedness of the world allows us to identify the similarities we share, but it also reveals the dangers of the inequalities that divide us.
