Our Family is Messed Up| 6 PM

When we think our family is messed up, we should look up Genesis 35. We saw Jacob tricks His father into giving to him the birthright of Esau. With his mother Rebecca planning it with Jacob putting furry animal skin on his arms, Jacob approaches his blind father Then, he runs away. We also read about one son named Reuben sleeping with the concubine of Jacob. Clearly, we see a family dynamic that is messed up.

There were five main points in this reading:

1. Obey God - Even if his life is threatened, Jacob obeyed God when he heard God tell him to go back to Dad and brother.

2. He casted out all foreign idols and buried it under an Oak tree so nobody can go back to it.

3. He made an altar for God acknowledging that God saved him.

4. God changed his name from Jacob to Israel. This shows his new mission and God's new covenant.
