The axeman cometh to McDonalds

In the very early morning hours in a New York McDonalds, a man gets into a confrontation with several of the guests and decides he wants to scare some patrons by brandishing a hatchet and begin swinging the weapon towards guests and starts to vandalize the restaurant.
And then for some reason stops and allows the patrons to beat on him.
He was arrested then released just hours later.
